What Really Matters

It has been some time since I’ve written here, please excuse my absence. Sometimes we go through periods where we disengage from writing, art, or creating but when we come back, we come back strong. Throughout this time being away, I have been focusing on my own mental health and perfecting things such as my routines and sleep schedule. I have worked hard to achieve daily happiness because for me being happy is my choice and I choose it everyday even on the worst of days. I still allow myself to feel all the feelings I need to but in the end I am happy and grateful for each and every blessing that I have (they are countless).

So what actually matters? Are our problems truly problems? Let me put things in perspective: when someone close to you may lose their life, what else matters in that moment? Absolutely nothing, just their health. Everything you thought was a problem was just what life is and can be. We catastrophize, think life is over when we go through hardship and we choose to be negative sometimes and we “can’t help it”. I am telling you what you think are problems aren’t actually problems. If you are breathing, have a roof over your head, have food and water, you are richer than many on this planet. Work hard and the rest will follow. If you can breathe on your own, you are incredibly blessed.

We forget to look at our blessings. Why? Because we like to make ourselves the victims of our story and we pity ourselves. Why not be thankful for all that we have, whether you believe its from God or something else, being grateful allows us to get into a better mindset. Perception is reality.

I almost lost someone I truly love. There is still that possibility but we are hopeful they will pull through. When I heard the news, all of my problems disappeared instantly. I realized what is important in life: my health, my happiness, my perception, and my loved ones. Everything else is just life and will be sorted out at some point. I had to accept that all that I thought were bringing me down was all of my negative thoughts. There is no place for negativity in my life and there shouldn’t be in your life either.

What really matters for you? What are you going to prioritize and cherish? Who are your people that matter most? What are you grateful for. Keep your faith alive. Keep your mindset positive even in the face of adversity. If you can do that, you will triumph over any challenge that comes your may, no matter how difficult.

I finally found what matters to me. I hope you do too. Finding peace, love, and happiness is a lifelong journey. Start today.
